The Executive Committee met on May 29, 2020, to review and update the membership on the current status of operations. They reviewed the viability of the 2020 Track and Field competition season. After careful consideration the committee decided to cancel the 2020 outdoor Track and Field competition season. Our goal is to successfully and responsibly execute the Athletics return to training protocol following the AHS guidelines which will allow us to target a successful cross country season in fall.

The Athletics Alberta Executive Committee along with our legal and insurance advisors reviewed and updated the Active to Train return to track guidelines and supporting documentation. We expect to release the documents by June 5th, 2020, outlining the next steps in the process. The goal is to return to training at track facilities by mid to late June following the Alberta Health Services mandated physical distancing protocols. Currently, we are working with our municipal facility partners throughout the province to finalize the remaining details of facility operation, outbreak protocols, user roles and responsibilities, and waivers. Please note: All existing and new members MUST read, acknowledge and sign the Athletics Alberta’s Active to Train guideline documents PRIOR to returning to track to be considered in compliance. Be sure to watch for those guidelines and proceed accordingly.

Also, to please note: Two townhalls will be happening June 10 and 11 respectively. Attendance is MANDATORY of 1 club executive, and the head coach at one of these virtual townhalls for Clubs to return to training. Details on the townhalls are below and in our online calendar.

We are also excited to announce that the Executive Committee has approved a new summer 2020 membership category. This membership will enable clubs looking to activate new short term members that want to train for the remainder of the summer or athletes looking to springboard into the XC and indoor season. The cost for the Athletics Alberta “summer membership” is priced at $25. This amount is for new members (or renewing summer members) only. It does not impact current annual or seasonal members but it is replacing the trial membership that has been suspended for the summer season.

Should you have any questions in regards to this update please do not hesitate to contact the Athletics Alberta office for more details.

We look forward to seeing our athletes and coaches “Back on Track” in the coming weeks.

Due to the popularity of the future town halls we need to have only Club Executive’s and Coaches in attendance.  These meetings are password protected. To gain access to the active password you will need to fill out the invite request form via https://form.jotform.com/201555228658056.  *Please note: that if you are not on the list of your club executive or a coach of Athletics Alberta you will need to receive the information from you Club Leadership after the townhalls have taken place.

Recordings of the townhalls will be available online 24 hours after the virtual meeting on this page.
