The Athletics Community is saddened by the loss of Throws Official, Gordon Murray. Those who knew him best have shared heartfelt memories and condolences.
From Caltaf: “We have lost a beloved member of our track community. Gordon Murray, known to everyone as Gord, has passed away. He will be sorely missed among our track community and outside of the track community. There will be no service at his request. Gord will be fondly remembered by every thrower he officiated for and fondly teased, by the officials he worked with and mentored, and most of all by his friends and family. He has served our track and field community in rain and shine and snow and wind for countless hours. He’s in the background of thousands of photos and videos so it was hard to find him in the foreground as evidenced by the second photo. But he is pictured here at one of our many rainy CALTAF Classic meets last year. We will miss him greatly.”
On behalf of the Officials, Irene Gaudet writes: “The Athletics Alberta Officials community was saddened recently with the passing of long-time Throws Official Gordon (Gord) Murray from the Calgary area. Gord began officiating in 2004 and quickly rose to become a level 5 Throws Official. As well, he served as a mentor and evaluator to many throws officials across Canada. His calm, even demeanor will be sorely missed, especially by the Calgary area officials. Gord could always be counted to go above and beyond for the athletes. Social time will not be the same without his presence. We’re going to miss you, Gord! The Officials would like to extend our condolences to his partner and fellow throws official Denise Roche.”
Athletics Alberta extends our sincere condolences to Denise, Gord’s friends and family, and those who were lucky to know him.
