GAAB Session #6-2021 – Preparing for the New Normal Coach Development: Get Ready to Race

The fourth in our 5-part Coach Development Series: Preparing for the New Normal.
Join presenter, Mike Van Tighem, for a presentation on the training requirements needed for Middle & Long Distance events prior to the return to competition.
About Mike:
Mike began his coaching career in Kelowna in 1981 where he was a founding member of the Kelowna Track and Field Club in 1983. After moving to Calgary, he subsequently coached with the Calgary Thunderbolts, University of Calgary Athletics Club and the U of Calgary Dinos. Throughout his career he has been a coach of age-class athletes, school programs, Provincial teams, and has coached on several Canadian Teams; most recently at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2019 Pan Am Games. He has been an active coaching educator, in British Columbia and Alberta. Although Mike has been the personal coach of 3 Olympians, his focus has always been on identifying and meeting the needs of all of his athletes, no matter what their level of ability. He recently retired to BC and continues to coach Jessica O’Connell and Maria Bernard-Galea in Calgary while being part of Malindi Elmore’s (Kelowna) support team as well.
