Thursday, September 19, we celebrated some of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes. It was an absolute joy to have Marco Arop, Amanda Rummery, and Noah Vucsics honoured and celebrated.
Thursday was “Athletic Excellence in Edmonton” day, organized by Sport Edmonton and the City of Edmonton. In addition to public recognition, inspirational stories were shared from the athletes and the idea that ‘we all start somewhere’ was brought home. From the Terry Fox run in elementary school to trying a number of different sports before honing in on your preferred sport, the Olympians and Paralympians spoke from the heart and left spectators with the knowing that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, community, and belief.
On Sunday, September 22, our road race, Run the River Fall Challenge, had added excitement with Noah, Amanda, and Marco leading our races. There was a palpable ‘this is so cool’ vibe among the runners and, indeed, having an Olympian and Paralympians set the race pace was pretty awesome. Autographs and photo opps were a big hit with the runners and athletes alike.
We are very lucky to have such humble, enthusiastic, and, quite frankly, remarkable athletes in our Association. We invite you to enjoy some photos!
