The 2015 outdoor season is barely underway, but there were a number of great performances turned in by Canadian athletes over the weekend, notably a new Canadian record by Christabel Nettey in the women’s long jump, and Andre De Grasse equaled the best all-time mark in the men’s 200-metres.
Nettey set a new Canadian record in the long jump with a leap of 6.98-metres at the Mt. SAC Relays. De Grassecontinues his hot spring by taking Mt. SAC Relay titles in both the 100-metres and 200-meres. In the 200-metres he tied the Canadian record with a time of 20.16 (+0.3). Also taking wins in the invitational section were Brandon McBride (800-metres), Erin Teschuk (3000-metres steeplechase) and Sultana Frizell (hammer throw). Teschuk’stime of 9:43.83 is the second fastest ever by a Canadian in the women’s 3000-metres steeplechase.
Juniors Raquel Tjernagel (400-metres) and Justyn Knight (1500-metres) also turned in notable performances over the weekend.
