In response to the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act (formerly Bill 29), recently enacted by the Government of Alberta.
Effective September 1, 2025, Athletics Alberta has implemented the Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy (link below) that applies to sports/events that fall under Athletics Alberta’s governance/sanctioning and are competitive in nature.
Athletics Alberta – Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy
This policy is designed to:
- Establish a balanced approach to protect the integrity of female-only athletic competitions by ensuring women and girls have the opportunity to compete in biological female-only divisions.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta’s Fairness and Safety in Sport Act (formerly Bill 29) and demonstrate our continued commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment.
Athletics Alberta recognizes that this is a sensitive and evolving area, and we are committed to working with the athletics community; including athletes, coaches, officials, clubs, meet directors, administrators, and volunteers, to provide clarity, support and updates as they may become available.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this policy further, please contact the Athletics Alberta office.
